Belleview sits about 12 miles south of Ocala along the US 441 and US 301 corridor, and the city has been organized around water since the day it was founded. The town started life in 1884 as Nine Mile Pond, named for its distance from Ocala, and that pond is now Lake Lillian, the spring fed centerpiece of the city. The older neighborhoods around the Lake Lillian Historic District come with bungalows, deep lots, and enormous live oaks, which is close to ideal for a slide as long as you pick a spot with open sky overhead. Either way the sandy soil takes our stakes well, and the mild grade across most of town means you rarely have to hunt for level ground.

Lake Lillian Park on SE Robinson Road has a playground, a fishing dock, a paved walking trail, and pavilions, and city residents can reserve the large pavilion at no charge, with a small fee for everyone else. The Belleview Community Center on SE 110th Place sits right next to the Wilma Loar Splash Pad, and the Belleview Sports Complex has the open acreage for a larger event. Belleview also throws a lot of parties of its own. Founder’s Day in May, the Friday Foodie Fest, Trunk or Treat in October, and Light Up Lake Lillian in December all draw a crowd, and a water slide turns a spring or summer community event into the thing kids talk about all year.
